Weekend Recap and a Look Ahead
After 800 miles of driving, two hockey games and two successful invasions, this weekend is drawing to a close. The Huskies came out of this weekend with a 1-1 record by way of an embarrassing 5-2 loss to Northern Michigan and a hard-fought 3-2 win over Lake Superior State.

Friday night was the annual Take Over the Berry trip, and it went off without a hitch. Despite the ugly score, the 150 Misfits in attendance definitely did take over the BEC. I was told that we were louder than the NMU student section, even if you were standing right next to the NMU students.
With about 3 minutes left and the scoreboard reading 5-1 in favor of NMU, the Misfits finally took their rightful positions standing and and did some of the loudest cheering of the night. The team responded and Alex MacLeod got his first goal as a Husky at the 18:35 mark of the 3rd. Even though the game ended at 5-2, the Misfits continued the noise, drowning out the remaining NMU fans at the final horn with "Let's Go Huskies!"
I have been to almost 40 Husky Hockey games both home and away and countless other pro and high school games in various sports, and I have never heard a fan base maintain that level of enthusiasm and volume when down 5-0, 5-1 or even 5-2. The Misfits were amazing on Friday. If we can keep up that energy at home throughout the season, I guarantee you no opposing team is going to want to play in the JMSIA.

On Saturday, Yager and I drove to Sault Ste. Marie for the game versus the LSSU Lakers. With a meager group of 2 Misfits and 2 Pep Banders and a handful of MTU Alum, we managed to out cheer the LSSU fans, despite the fact that we were quickly informed that the use of noisemakers during play was not allowed. The Huskies scored two shorthanded goals and one powerplay goal to beat the Lakers 3-2.

Overall a good weekend. With the Superior Showcase/Cup in the books, its time to start the WCHA season. The Huskies will be hitting the road to take on the Colorado College Tigers (USCHO thread). Puck drops at 9:35 Friday and 9:05 Saturday. If you are interested in watching either game, we will have it on at my house. Look for more details as the week goes on.
Once again, great job this weekend Misfits! And as always, GO HUSKIES!
